Escheat Deadline (AC Oct 2024)

Escheat Deadline: November 1st!

This is a friendly reminder that the escheat deadline is fast approaching on November 1, 2024. In StarsLink, you can find our reference Guide on the process.

Please note that the Bureau of Insurance considers remitting escheat funds to the Virginia Treasurer a serious matter as they enforce the Virginia Administrative Code as it relates to settlement agents.

To help cut down on uncashed checks, follow up on any outstanding check more than 90 days old and regularly investigate each, documenting the file. Stale dated items should be void, defaced, and reissued to the appropriate parties. On occasions a phone call is required to the payee to cash checks, as well.
