CONNECTICUT REAL ESTATE CONVEYANCE TAX CHANGES

Public Act 05-268 further extends - from 7/1/05 to 7/1/07 - the temporary increase in municipal conveyance tax for 18 Towns defined as "targeted investment communities" set forth in the list below.

From July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007, the amendment increases the municipal portions of the real estate conveyance tax. 

  • It increases the municipal tax from 0.11% to .25% (.0025) of the sales price ($2.50 per $1,000.00).
  • It also gives the 18 “targeted investment communities” and any town that has a manufacturing plant that qualifies for enterprise zone benefits the option of increasing their municipal real estate conveyance tax by an additional quarter point to 0.5% (.005) ($5.00 per $1,000.00).  The latter provision affects the following towns:*

New Britain

New Haven

New London

Norwalk

Norwich

Southington

Stamford

Waterbury
